Easy Escape Debt — Support

Questions, problems, or anything missing — write to ankush.easyescape@gmail.com and a person will answer.

Getting started

The app asks two things when you first open it: what comes in each month, and one debt. Everything else — more debts, your accounts, what you spend — can be added afterwards from the tabs.

The + button is the only way to record anything. It sits above the tab bar on every screen, and on an account's own page it arrives with that account already filled in.

Common questions

Where is my data?

On your phone, and nowhere else. There is no account and no server, so nobody — including us — can see your balances. See the privacy policy.

How do I back it up?

Settings → Backup → Export a backup file. Your phone will ask where to keep it: Files, Drive, email, anywhere. Do this before changing phones, and occasionally besides — deleting the app deletes the data with it.

How do I move to a new phone?

Export a backup on the old phone, then on the new one use Settings → Backup → Import a backup.

Why does it clear my smallest debt first?

Deliberately — finishing one is what keeps people going, and each debt that closes frees its payment for the next. It is not always the cheapest order, and the app tells you when the dearest debt is a different one.

Why is my debt-free date not changing?

The plan only counts money it knows about. Until you add what you spend each month, the app assumes it cannot tell, and shows the date on your minimum payments alone.

Why can't I edit a balance?

A balance is set once, when you add the account, and after that it moves only through entries you record. A balance you can retype is one that can quietly disagree with its own history. To correct one, record an entry — that leaves a trace of why it moved.

What is the emergency fund asking me?

Which of your accounts you could actually reach within a week. A savings balance locked up for three years looks the same as cash in a list, and only you know which is which. Settings → Emergency fund.
